About Holmdel in Monmouth County, NJ 07733

Holmdel is cut in half by the Garden State Parkway. The section that is north of the parkway has a denser population with many condominiums and three large shopping centers along the Route 35 corridor. The side that is south of the parkway is more rural, with single-family homes on large plots of land and two giant commercial office properties. It also has some main roads including State Route 34 and County Route 520.

The center of Holmdel is home to Bayshore Medical Center, which is one of only five hospitals in Monmouth County. The hospital has many medical office buildings supporting it on North Beers Street. The region was formerly known for its farming. Soybeans, hay, potatoes, grapes, tomatoes, corn and apples are just a few of the crops cultivated here. These were typically available from farm stalls, especially along what is now State Highway 35.

During the cold war, Holmdel was home to one of 14 Nike Missile anti-aircraft defense sites located throughout New York and New Jersey. The site was located on what is now Phillips/Veteran’s Park, and it included a missile-launching station as well as more than a dozen government-owned residences where the soldiers who were stationed there lived with their families.

The town is home to the PNC Bank Arts Center (originally the Garden State Arts Center), a 7,000 seat amphitheater that regularly hosts big-name performers. And if being outdoors is more your style, take advantage of one of Holmdel’s many parks or visit nearby Raritan Bay.

The town offers six Township Parks and two County Parks for leisure. The Holmdel Swim Club, a private swimming facility open year-round, is also located in the town. Despite the fact that north side parks are smaller in size, they are neighborhood focused. Bayonet Farm Park, on the south side of the Town, is a peaceful rural farm-like passive retreat while Cross Farms Park is home to active sports and leisure activities.

Holmdel public schools are highly rated. The town is home of two High Schools, Holmdel HS (public) and St. John Vianney HS (private).
